Oak & Copper Belt

£195.00

I designed and made this belt for myself. I will be wearing it for many decades to come.

‍Oak-tanned leather is extremely scarce today. I am lucky enough to visit the last remaining oak bark tannery in the UK to source, what is in my opinion, the world’s finest strapping leathers - Specifically, J&FJ Baker’s oak-tanned bridle butts. This leather is incredibly strong, smells amazing and despite being very thick, the belt flexes and forms to the body nicely.

The buckle, being made from solid copper will patina beautifully alongside the leather with time and use. Handmade by a small studio in the United States.

Whilst I unfortunately can’t have these belts made before Father’s Day, I am offering a discount to anyone hoping to get one for their Dad as a belated gift. Code: FORMYDAD (Valid up to the 21st of June.) Lead times are around 7 weeks as everything, including the buckle, is made to order. (If you’d like me to include a little message for your Dad, just add it to the order notes.)

  • There is no standard formula for calculating belt length from waist size. Instead, the best method is to measure a belt you already use.

Using a tape measure and starting at the base of the buckle, measure the distance to the hole that is most commonly used. If your current belt has an especially short or long buckle, it may be worth adding or subtracting half an inch respectively.

If measurement lands in between sizes, note that new leather will stretch slightly after some use, about a quarter inch in this case. If you would like to order a half size though, just send me a message using the form at the bottom of the page.

  • Leather will patina with time and use, darkening in colour, whilst developing a rich and lustrous surface. Friction, oils from skin, and exposure to sunlight will accelerate this process. Consistent handling should keep most leathers naturally conditioned. If you wish to condition your leather goods, I suggest either a natural leather balm or Saphir Renovating Cream.

Copper will slowly oxidise, darkening through multiple hues in different places depending on how it is worn. To brighten a tarnished surface, I recommend using Brasso, being careful to avoid the leather.
