These shells are cut from the same hide, one naturally coloured, the other one has been stained to a cognac brown. Unlike regular shells, they have no been glazed, and have instead been heavily treated with a unique bridle wax. This wax can be buffed into the shell with a horse hair brush. Max from Shell Cordovan Toscana Italia is the tanner behind these two pieces, and sold them to me a while back. However, I make mostly wallets from shell, and these come in around 2.5mm (6oz) in thickness, which is a bit too much for me. Also, they are incredibly waxy - Great for shoe makers, not so much for me, so I’ve decided to sell what I have left.
