  • Horween Dublin

The Horween tannery in Chicago has been producing some of the world’s most prestigious leathers since 1905. Now, the 5th generation of the Horween family continues to practice the very same tanning methods, 120 years later, to tan their Dublin leathers.

Dublin is a full-grain steer hide with a pure vegetable tannage, using the same liquor formulas used in the tanning of their famous Shell Cordovan. It also smells amazing.

    Badalassi Carlo Minerva

Badalassi Carlo, my favourite tannery, is based in San Miniato, Tuscany, Italy. Founded in 1994, Badalassi Carlo exclusively produce luxury vegetable-tanned leathers under the Consorzio Vera Pella Italiana (Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium).

Minerva is a smooth, full-grain, aniline-dyed vachetta, that ages beautifully. The hides are traditionally tanned in pits for 30 days, and then treated with a mixture of animals fats in wooden drums.

  • The loops used in this strap are made from solid brass, that has been heated, quenched and then submerged in acid. This process oxidises the brass giving it a gunmetal finish. This finish will wear down with use, revealing fresh brass underneath, that will begin to darken and patina naturally.

If you would like natural brass instead, just add a note to your order and I will leave the loops untreated.

  • My logo and James’ signature will be embossed on the straps made with Minerva leathers, and stamped in ink on the straps made with Dublin leather.

  • Leather will patina with time and use, darkening in colour, whilst developing a rich and lustrous surface. Friction, oils from skin, and exposure to sunlight will accelerate this process. Consistent handling should keep most leathers naturally conditioned. If you wish to condition your leather goods, I suggest either a natural leather balm or Saphir Renovating Cream.

  • If you’d like to customize your strap further, feel free to send me a message using the contact form at the bottom of the page.
